December, Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath

In the first event of the 22/23 year of The London Youth games, Team Wandsworth’s Girls and Boys teams took away Silver in Cross Country with over 1,800 young people running from across London. As Europe’s largest youth multi-sports competition, the games offer a unique experience for young people. This epic multi-sport event offers opportunities for people aged 7 to 18 across the Capital to grow and excel in their field competing in the Games which are contested between the 32 London boroughs (as well as the City of London) annually and take place at various venues for nine months of the year.

With the first having just occurred on November 19th, there are over 30 events that take place every year, including qualifying rounds and standalone finals at venues as prestigious as The Olympic Park and Aquatics Centre. The teams are free to join and open to all young people in London.

There are a range of 25 different sports such as Badminton, Judo, Rowing and Cricket, also including Para Sports such as Para Athletics, Para Football, Para Swimming since last year’s additions of new eligibility criteria through a three-tier system – Aspire, Inspire and Higher makes it possible for more young people with different levels of sporting ability to compete in the Games.

On November 19th, the Boys and Girls Under 11 teams both took home Silver with top three performances counting, Matilda Melley (9th), Isobel Mclennan (14th) and Ava Abel (15th) U11 girls, Max Harrison (4th), Alfie Beasley- Suffolk (34th) and Alessandro Pecce (2nd), U11 boys.
