A Coronation & Eurovision special celebrating Britain’s best bits
Join us in Wandsworth for a week of community celebrations in the parks: Screenings, Picnics, Live Music, Sing Along & Family-Friendly activities – All for free!
With summer just around the corner, Eurovision on home turf, a right Royal knees up on the cards and three bank holidays, there’s plenty of reasons to celebrate this May! Wandsworth Borough Council, in partnership with Enable, are helping communities get into the festivities with a series of completely free screenings and events across the borough.
Rolling out the red carpet for King Charles III’s Coronation, Battersea Park will play host to a weekend full of celebrations. Join us to watch the crowning moment on Saturday 6th May, when the Coronation ceremony will be shown on the big screen alongside live music and activities, including a ‘Make Your Own Crown” workshop fit for all the family!
On Sunday 7th May, it’s time to eat, drink and be merry! Bring along a picnic to Battersea Park to join in with The Big Lunch celebrations, with more live music and a special screening of the Coronation Concert.
But the party doesn’t stop there! On Sunday 7th and Monday 8th May you can also picnic in style at Furzedown Rec, Woodfield Pavilion on Tooting Common, Shillington, The Skylark Cafe on Wandsworth Common and Coronation Gardens, where The Big Lunch will also be taking place. Pack your own lunch and continue the fun, with a special programme of activities for all ages including children’s storytelling, “Make Your Own Crown” workshops and performances.
The Eurovision Song Contest is always a jewel in the crown of TV entertainment, but this year we are even more excited than usual for its return – because for the first time since 1998 it’s taking place right here in the UK! Whether you will be cheering on our homegrown talent Mae Muller or acts from further afield, come and revel in the atmosphere in Battersea Park where we will be live streaming the action straight from Liverpool, complete with a bar, food vendors and face painting to help the party spirit!
Bring your friends, family, and flags for screenings of the semi-finals on Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th May, and the grand finale on Saturday 13th May.
While all Eurovision screenings are free, there will be limited availability for the final on Saturday 13th May so pre-booking is required. For information on when tickets will be released, please register via www.whatsonwandsworth.com/summer
Throughout the rest of the week, head down to the Bowling Green in Battersea Park for free community film screenings perfect for all ages. Snack on marmalade sandwiches with everyone’s favourite bear Paddington, walk the plank with Hook or join the Mathletes with chick flick royalty Mean Girls. Or if you would prefer something more musical, come along for a rousing sing along session with stars of showbiz The Greatest Showman or Disney’s magical Encanto.
