The borough of Wandsworth has one of the richest varieties of open spaces in central London. Enable Leisure and Culture is a non-for profit charitable organisation and the lead contractor employed by Wandsworth Borough Council to manage greenspaces throughout the borough including the management and maintenance of 32 parks and open spaces.
The role of Parks Contract Manager is a key post in the Enable Parks team. Your responsibility will be to take control of all daily works instructions assigned to two key contractors working throughout the borough.
We are looking for a diligent and energetic individual who thrives on juggling planned and ad-hoc works relating to horticulture, sports pitch provision, cemeteries, cleansing and playgrounds. You will need to have a keen eye for detail and quality, identifying any problems quickly and implementing processes to achieve desired outcomes. Your administrative talents will ensure smooth running of a £2.6m annual contract which delivers grounds maintenances services in all greenspaces.

Responsible for the day-to-day management of Parks and Open Spaces, Playgrounds, Cemeteries and highway amenity areas ensuring that horticultural grounds maintenance, litter picking and sports pitch maintenance are carried out together with grave digging duties and cleaning contractor duties in accordance with the approved contract.
You will be responsible for the contractual obligations of the incumbent grounds maintenance and playground contractors and the works they carry out across all parks and green spaces.
You will be responsible for ensuring Parks and Open Spaces remain clean, tidy and safe environments to visit. Ensuring adequate litter collecting process are in place boroughwide and oversee existing green waste recycling operations to contribute to our environmental aims.
Identify all repairs and maintenance requirements to parks infrastructure and buildings and report for action through appropriate channels.
Provide monthly reports regarding the contractors performance on the cemeteries contract with particular regard to grave digging.
Responsible for all aspects of direct contract management and administration, including maintaining all financial records, budget statements, raising and monitoring all orders (including sub-contracted works), rectifications and defaults, as well as health and safety requirements.
Carry out daily monitoring of the Horticultural Maintenance and Cleaning Contractors performance ensuring compliance with the contract specifications and the clients guidelines. Monitor all instructed parks project works through to completion approving sign off where necessary, providing assessments and/or financial reports when required.
Ensure the delivery of sports pitch renovations and support the provision of first class sports pitches.
Maintain and develop strong working relationships with the Contractor’s management team and provide the Operations Manager with up to date and accurate information for meetings, reviews as necessary.
Responsible for adhering to Enable Leisure and Culture’s corporate policies of Equality, Health and Safety, Staff development and code of conduct, Safeguarding and the Company’s Values, Vision and Mission statement.
Undertake other related duties as directed by the Head of Parks, including the provision of advice/assistance to other departmental services and as required to attend meetings outside normal working hours.
- Relevant experience in the landscaping and/or horticultural sectors.
- Previous contract or operational management experience.
- A strong understanding of amenity horticulture, sports provision processes and equipment.
- Relevant experience managing sub-contracted or direct labour in the horticultural, maintenance or landscaping sectors, as well as hands on experience in a landscaping/horticultural setting.
- Experience working collaboratively with and providing support to internal departments.
- An awareness of the needs of a range of users, stakeholders and partners in a parks and open spaces setting.
- Diligent in maintaining records and managing costs through an approved budgets process.
- A positive action-orientated approach.
- Sound IT skills with a particular emphasis on Excel.
- Be able to travel around Wandsworth regularly as work requires, and further afield as and when necessary.
