Enable is a not-for-profit organisation, working in partnership with councils, charities and other organisations to deliver health, leisure and community services and events that enrich people’s lives. The Health and Wellbeing Department deliver a range of programmes to improve the health of our participants. We target those most in need and utilise community based, person-centred approaches to deliver excellent programmes.

This exciting new post will work specifically to deliver and manage the Active Lifestyles, Walk Wandsworth and Active Workplaces programmes, and to promote physical activity opportunities across Wandsworth. The postholder will be responsible for all aspects of the activities, this will include supervising casual staff and volunteers, promoting local physical activity opportunities and developing new activities.

We are looking for someone who is an experienced project manager with related experience in a similar field. We encourage applicants from the local area to apply as local knowledge will be important for success in this role. You should be comfortable communicating with a wide range of partners, have strong organisational skills, and good problem-solving abilities.

This role will be based at Enable offices in Battersea Park

Job Purpose: 

  • Responsible for leading the Active Lifestyles, Walk Wandsworth, and Active Workplaces programmes in Wandsworth.
  • Develop new activities to increase physical activity and promote physical activity opportunities across Wandsworth.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for leading and developing all aspects of the Active Lifestyles, Walk Wandsworth, and Active Workplace programmes in Wandsworth. This includes planning, development, delivery, promotion, and reporting.
  2. Recruit, train, and supervise delivery staff and volunteers ensuring all members of the team are appropriately qualified. This includes rewarding and motivating the team.
  3. Develop partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders to support the delivery and growth of the programmes.
  4. Working with Enable Marketing and Communications department, create and implement a marketing and communication plan. This will include press releases, social media activity, producing promotional literature.
  5. Attend community events to present and promote the Active Lifestyles, Walk Wandsworth, Active Workplace programmes and other local physical activity opportunities.
  6. Manage programme budgets as required. Monitor and document income and expenditure according to Enable policy and procedure.
  7. Manage key performance data from activities, including the collection of this data. Utilize the Views database along with other systems to record key outcomes and indicators effectively to ensure reporting is accurate and delivered on-time.
  8. Monitor and evaluate the impact of your work. Provide written reports, summaries, and presentations as required.
  9. Identify and apply for additional funds to support the growth of the programme.
  10. Assists in managing resources provided to support the departments work including staff, volunteers, materials, and equipment ensuring these are used and maintained effectively.

  2.   • Knowledge & awareness of relevant national, regional and local policies and initiatives within health, physical activity & public health.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the benefits of physical activity, and the barriers to being physically active.
  • Knowledge of behaviour change models and understanding of the benefits of a person-centred approach to behaviour change (desirable).
  • Knowledge of Wandsworth and the community organisations that operate in the borough. (desirable)
  • Experience of physical activity or sports development work or similar employment/voluntary role.
  • Experience of working with target groups to encourage participation in sport or physical activity.
  • Project management experience, preferably relating to working with partner organisations and planning, delivering and evaluating projects.
  • Experience of recruiting, deploying, supervising and training staff and volunteers, including strategies for motivating and rewarding them.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to converse with key people (including clients and the public) and develop new networks using a range of methods, including; oral, written, telephone and in meetings.
  • Strong IT and web-based skills, with experience of using all applications within the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Able to meet customers’ needs and ensure customers and stakeholders receive an excellent service
  • Good monitoring and evaluation skills with the ability to bring together multiple data sets and analyse data. Ability to present this data for a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to work alone and effectively prioritise workload to meet the demands of the job in a timely manner.
  • Able to work effectively with others in a team openly and collaboratively, valuing their differences creating a working environment which helps achieve goals
  • Holds an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification in health, sport or exercise sciences (or similar) to demonstrate expertise.
