Wandsworth’s Big Play Out
From Monday 24th – Friday 28th July Wandsworth’s Big Play Out came to Evolution London at Battersea Park! Enable, in partnership with Wandsworth Council have teamed up with Battersea Summer Scheme and Smart Hospitality to delivered a week of free activities and entertainment to families and was designed for children ages 5-16 years.
There were 7000 hot meals served up throughout the week courtesy of Smart Hospitality. The entire programme, including food, was totally free to all attendees and was one part of our mission of supporting young people and families during the Cost of Living Crisis and the school summer holiday when many children can experience a lack of activity and finances are stretched.
The fully booked scheme, invited families to enjoy a huge breadth of activities with something for every age, across music workshops, dance classes, reptile corner, exercise classes, sports activities, radio workshops, a reading corner, movie sessions, food education workshops, inflatables and soft play, art classes, a disco, games and crafting all engaging many of our strong links with community partners. In attendance we had the Mayor Julianna Annan, Cllr Kemi Akinola, Cllr Sheila Boswell Chair of the Children’s Committee and Cllr Kate Stock Cabinet Member for Children’s services, thank you to them for coming down.
A huge thanks to everybody involved, who volunteered, hosted and of course attended!
Here’s what some happy parents had to say:
“It was very good, an amazing experience which I have never had before. It was a great environment for me and my children.”
“I came to a similar event last year and I thought that was brilliant, but this was another level and even better! So well organised and the food was great.”
“The staff were excellent and went above and beyond! The facilitates were also great and our family really appreciates the effort and dedication that went into this.”
“There was good security, great organisation and you did so well in bringing the community together.”
“The skateboarding was great and we’re now thinking of getting a skateboard ourselves.”
“My kids tried the boxing which they wouldn’t usually do, my son seems interested so maybe it’s something we carry on doing!”
