The Streets is a two-year project to bring live music and performance to seven London high streets, including Tooting. Last weekend’s event at venues across the town was presented as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.Artists including Allan Harris roamed around the town performing mellow jazz at various venues including Graveney and Meadow, the Trafalgar Arms and the Wandsworth Oasis shop. Other highlights included Jazz for Toddlers events at the library and Graveney and Meadow.   The progressive brass band Perhaps Contraption played in Tooting Market and paraded down the high street before performing outside Tooting Broadway tube station.

The music went down well with shoppers, some of whom were dancing in the street as Perhaps Contraption played.

The event was brought to Tooting by live music and event producer Serious working in partnership with Wandsworth Council, Enable’s Arts Team and local business. The council’s cabinet member for communications Steffi Sutters went along to the event. She said:“This really has brought joy to the streets of Tooting. It’s been fantastic to hear music ring out around the town and see local people enjoy it so much. Tooting is a great place to shop and go out and have fun, and this has made it even better.”
