Love Parks Wandsworth is back!

Love Parks Wandsworth 2021 officially started at the weekend with a litter picking session on Wandsworth Common on Sunday 6th June, hosted by the Friends of Wandsworth Common  supported by Enable Leisure and Culture.

The event wasn’t widely publicised due to current Covid-19 restrictions, but that didn’t stop a group of the Friends heading out onto the Common in tandem with Plogolution, and several volunteers from the public who saw the iconic ‘Love Parks’ letters and Friends of Wandsworth Common stand and came over to help.

A spokesperson for the Friends group said: “Friends of Wandsworth Common  are excited to be hosting a litter and recyclables awareness raising campaign, as the first Love Parks Wandsworth event of the 2021 season. We are very lucky to be supported by and working with the Enable Events Team and delighted that Plogolution will be joining us for this event also.”

On the day the Friends, Ploggers and volunteers gathered:

Glass bottles – 374

Plastic bottles – 361

Cans – 674

Cardboard – 3x large bags

The Common was full of people happy for a chance to get out and enjoy one of the many open green spaces that Wandsworth boasts, seeing firsthand the work it takes to keep them litter free and clear.

With the start of Love Parks Wandsworth, many activities are organised across Wandsworth throughout the summer. The campaign’s main message is to ‘Just Keep Growing’ focusing on three core principles; health and wellbeing, biodiversity and celebrating parks and open spaces in the borough.

The event was supported by Continental Landscapes, who continue to do a fantastic job clearing waste and maintaining Wandsworth’s parks and open spaces. Continental Landscapes play a vital role in keeping Wandsworth’s green spaces clear for public use, ensuring they are kept free of litter.
