Costs

Allotment rent is charged according to the size of plot per rod per year.  A rod is approximately 25 square metres.  The rate per rod is set annually by Wandsworth Council.

The allotment rent year runs from 1st October to 30th September.

The average size of an allotment plot is 2.5 to 3 rods.

Rent charges from 1st October 2025 to 30th September 2026 are:

Full rate (per rod) £30.60

Senior Concession (per rod)  £21.40

*Access for All Concession (per rod) £15.30

Rent charges from 1st October 2026 to 30th September 2027 will be:

Full rate (per rod) £31.80

Senior Concession (per rod) £22.20

*Access for All Concession (per rod) £15.90

To claim the Senior rate you must provide evidence of date of birth and be aged over 65 at the date the rent is due (1 October).

Water charges

For most sites we also recharge the costs of water at £5.42 per rod.

The Beatrix Potter site pays its own water charges via the site committee. The annual water charge per site is divided amongst plot holders at that site.

Please note that failure to pay the rent can lead to your allotment tenancy being terminated.

Your tenancy renewal each year is secured only when we receive your payment. Invoices will be sent to automatically in early September and all payments are due by 1st October. 

In order to help us to help you better, throughout the year please ensure you have contacted the Allotments Office if:

  • Your contact details, email or phone number change;
  • Your home address changes;
  • If you are about to celebrate your 65th so we can charge you the concession price for future rents;  
  • If your personal circumstances change, and you can provide evidence to claim the Access for All concessionary rate;
  • You intend to give up your plot;
  • If you are having difficulty managing your plot due to illness, injury or changed circumstances.
