Have your say on the Active Wandsworth Strategy Consultation 2017
Active Wandsworth is consulting on its new strategy to help make Wandsworth a place where everyone can be active and healthy.
Active Wandsworth has launched a new five year strategy for 2017 – 2022 to help tackle inactivity in the borough and is looking for residents who currently do not play or do not take part in any physical activity to have their say.
Active Wandsworth is recognised as the Community Sport and Physical Activity Network for Wandsworth and is part of the national structure for sport in England. Active Wandsworth brings together Wandsworth Council (including Public Health), Enable Leisure and Culture and other key partners and organisations such as schools, further and higher education with local sports clubs, and organisations to provide a strategic overview of physical activity and sport in the borough.
Peter Freeman, Sport & Physical Activity Manager Enable Leisure and Culture:
“In Wandsworth, physical inactivity cost the health service £14.9m per year, with 259 premature deaths linked to physical inactivity per year and 4.3% of Wandsworth residents who suffer with diabetes. Shockingly, more than one in five children aged 4-5 are overweight or obese, and by the time children reach 10-11 years, approximately one in three are overweight or obese. The strategy provides details about how Wandsworth Council will support the borough’s residents get fitter and live a more active lifestyle.”
