Over the weekend of Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th of July, we saw the finals of Europe’s largest youth sports competition, the London Youth Games take place across the London Aquatics Centre, Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre and Lee Valley Athletics Centre.

Team Wandsworth were up against all of London’s other 32 boroughs across 25 different sport. Offering a unique experience for young people in London, the epic multi-sport event for young people aged 7 to 18 supports them to grow and excel in their field.

The annual games take place at various venues over nine months and there have been some truly fantastic displays of individual team excellence this year, along with outstanding dedication and determination from all of the Wandsworth Athletes.

Of particular note were the Boys Volleyball and Boys Para Swimming team, Para Athletics 100m and Shot Put, Boys Rowing and Boys Aquathlon, who were crowned London Champions. There were great performances from the Girls Para-Swimming team, Netball Team, Girls Hockey Team, Girls Football Team, Girls Athletics 100m, who won silver and bronze medals. A special note for the Girls Table Tennis team who were presented with the ‘Respect the Games Award’ for good sportsmanship and a friendly attitude.

Team Wandsworth did the borough proud finishing in an amazing third place in the overall Jubilee Trophy standings, with Haringey winning the outright title.

Over 500 athletes have been involved in the trials and training process, receiving free training  before being selected to represent the borough.

The new Wandsworth Borough Team Organiser, Grace Alleyne commented on the games this year It has been brilliant to see Wandsworth Teams competing again properly for the first time since 2019, and great to see so many athletes benefit by attending trials, training and competitions once again. It has been an absolute pleasure to witness the hard work and team spirit demonstrated by all Wandsworth teams and I am absolutely thrilled that this dedication has been reflected in our achievement of being awarded with the Bronze Jubilee Trophy. I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the Athletes, Coaches, Parents, Schools and Clubs for their time and efforts this year, plus the Community Development Team at Enable who with Wandsworth Council have worked tirelessly to organise teams and ensure this year’s games are enjoyed by all.”
