Enable are working in partnership with Richmond and Wandsworth Council Public Health Team to fund the delivery of our free to access 12-week weight management service. The service takes a holistic approach to weight loss, focusing on behaviour change and creating sustainable healthy habits. Sessions run for two hours per week with a one-hour nutrition session delivered by a Registered Nutritionist or Dietician covering topics such as:
- Macronutrients: Carbohydrates, Fats & Protein
- Micronutrients & Hydration
- Food Labels, Food Shopping & Eating Healthy on a Budget
- Dietary Interventions & Myth Busting: The Mediterranean Diet, Portion Control, Intermittent Fasting & more
- Overcoming Barriers to Change, Building Better Habits & Goal Setting
- Hormones & Weight Management
- Physical Activity & Overall Health
- The Sleep-Health Connection
- Stress & Emotional Eating
- Snacks, Alcohol & Eating Out
The nutrition session is then followed by a one-hour exercise class, with a qualified Physical Activity Instructor. The class offers a variety of aerobic, anaerobic and chair-based exercises depending on participant’s abilities.
We will be running programmes across Richmond and Wandsworth in localities and facilities that are accessible and near to you. The places are limited on each programme, however we will be running multiple sessions throughout the year. There is also a virtual or hybrid option via Zoom available for those unable to attend the in-person session, offering the full service as above.
Once your referral is received, a team member will contact you within five working days to confirm and provide access to a range of healthy lifestyle resources that you can use while on the waiting list. You’ll also have the opportunity to join our quarterly virtual information sessions, where you’ll learn more about the service and take part in a taster nutrition and/or physical activity session before the programme begins.
After completing the programme, you’ll receive a comprehensive list of local options to help you continue your health and wellbeing journey. This includes discounted gym memberships, free walking groups, cooking classes, discounted art or creative workshops to support mental wellbeing, and more!

Learning Disabilities Adult Weight Management
Recognising the unique challenges faced by individuals with learning disabilities, we’ve developed a tailored version of the programme to better meet their needs. In July 2024, we began co-designing this tailored programme by engaging with Learning Disability Partnership and Business Governance meetings, collaborating closely with dieticians to ensure the materials were accessible and sensitive to the needs of individuals with learning disabilities.
Working with the Baked Bean Charity in August 2024, we designed an inclusive programme that avoided technical terms like ‘macronutrients’ and replaced potentially sensitive language such as ‘weight’ or ‘weight loss’ with a focus on ‘healthy lifestyle education.’ The programme structure was carefully designed to meet participants’ preferences with the first hour as an interactive nutrition workshop using games and activities to simplify and reinforce learning and a second hour as a physical activity session incorporating ball games, ping pong, and full-body exercises set to music, ensuring activities were enjoyable and inclusive. To deliver the programme effectively, we recruited a nutritionist and a personal trainer experienced in working with individuals with learning disabilities.
The programme was launched as a 12-week pilot at the Wilditch Community Centre in Battersea. Interactive tools, such as red and green cards, were used to gauge participants’ understanding and ensure all attendees received the support they needed. Those who completed the programme achieved weight loss and showed significant improvements in their knowledge and confidence in implementing & sustaining healthy lifestyle changes.
Building on the success of this pilot, we are offering this programme to other areas and organisations across Wandsworth and Richmond.
